Griffin: Fashion Police felt disingenuous
Kathy Griffin didn’t think the E! show was her “best work”.
The comedienne quit the E! show on Friday after only seven episodes, after taking over from the late Joan Rivers in January. And during a chat with The View, the 54-year-old opened up about what led to her decision.
“I kind of felt like I was being forced to comment about pictures of beautiful women in perfect dresses, and say kind of bad things. … As a feminist and a comic, it just didn’t feel like the right fit for me,” she explained. “It’s a little different than what felt to me sort of like a dog-pile. I was hoping we could talk about the events themselves and the shows, so I didn’t want to say that Meryl Streep didn’t look great, because she looked great. So sometimes it felt disingenuous to me.”
As well as appearing on the TV programme to discuss her resignation, Kathy also popped by Howard Stern’s SiriusXM show on Monday. And continuing her frank chat, the star admitted it was probably wrong to try and fill her dear friend Joan’s shoes.
“Well, I probably shouldn’t have taken the gig,” she said.
Kathy is the second person to leave the panel in a matter of weeks after Kelly Osbourne also departed following the furore caused by Giuliana Rancic’s comments about pop star Zendaya’s dreadlocks at the Oscars. And the comedienne admitted to the radio host that her opinion of the show was very similar to the 30-year-olds.
“I think that Kelly has said post that she had four or five such great years with Joan,” she continued. “To me that means, ‘You know it’s not the same as it was with Joan.’ I gotta be honest. I kind of feel the same way. I don’t really feel it was my best work."
