Grimshaw confirms X Factor

Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw jokes his role as a judge on The X Factor was the “world’s worst kept secret” as he confirmed he’s joined the talent show.

The radio host – known as Grimmy – joked it had been the “world’s worst kept secret” as he made the announcement on his BBC breakfast show this morning. Nick also revealed his friend Rita Ora will complete the new judging panel line up.

“It’s going to be good right? It’s going to be fun,” he told listeners on the BBC Radio 1 show. “I think we start doing the auditions in July, but what are we going to do about judges houses? I think I should go to Oldham [Greater Manchester], give them a bit of reality. They obviously rent those houses?... We need to find a Sinitta.”

Nick joked he plans to contact Justin Bieber to see if he can film the infamous judges houses section of the series at his home in the US.

The 30-year-old presenter went on divulge that he met fellow judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini for dinner last night to celebrate his new role. The DJ admitted he feels totally in awe of the stunning singer and is determined to make friends with her.

“I just tried to get new fellow judge Cheryl on the phone, but she’s not answering. Cheryl is ignoring us, I have text her and phoned her,” he laughed. “We went for tea last night, a mezze platter to share... I get nervous around her because of her face, also she is tiny and perfect and beautiful. I look like I’ve won a competition to meet her. I look like I’ve been stung by a bee, like I need an injection to reduce the size of my face.”

Rita has jumped ship from rival talent show The Voice after just one season and can’t wait to find a new singing sensation. Having previously appeared as a guest judge on the X Factor in 2012, she is looking forward to making her mark.

"I am excited to be coming back," the singer smiled. "I had a ball here in 2012. This is a journey I can't wait to embark on to find some talented singers.”

Simon Cowell is also returning to the judging panel for the new series.
