Gruffudd: Golf safer for my looks

Ioan Gruffudd revealed he has swapped rugby for golf to preserve his looks now he is a Hollywood film star.

The 39-year-old Welsh actor joined stars including Dennis Quaid, Tim Allen, Ron Perlman and CSI star George Eads at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Foundation Golf Classic at the Lakeside Golf Club in Burbank, California, for a charity event.

Ioan confessed: "I'm a hopeless golfer. I love it for the camaraderie, the banter. It beats playing rugby which I used to do when I was younger. It's a nicer way of having some competitive spirit without breaking your nose!"

Meanwhile, CSI star George Eads claimed he was a terrible cheat.

He revealed: "I play filthy. I play dirty. I cheat probably every chance I can get. If I feel like nobody's watching, I'll move the ball.

The charity event was held to raise money for the SAG Foundation's Catastrophic Health Fund and Emergency Services Assistance Programmes.

Dennis Quaid revealed: "It helps a lot of actors who don't have medical insurance but may have catastrophic injuries or illnesses and this is a chance to give back to that."
