Gwyneth Paltrow wants to distance herself from Goop
The actress faced a struggle establishing the company and building it from the ground up.
Gwyneth Paltrow is planning to step away from her lifestyle brand Goop because she fears she is holding the company back.
The Iron Man star launched her digital newsletter in 2008 to share tips, tricks, and advice on everything from food, health, beauty, fashion, and sex, and she has since expanded Goop to include a publishing company and a pop-up store, which debuted in New York City last November (15).
However, Gwyneth believes the negative attention that often surrounds anything she is involved in outside of Hollywood is limiting the potential growth of Goop, according to CBRonline.com.
The actress aired her concerns while speaking at the 2016 Sage Summit business convention in Chicago, Illinois, where she took part in a panel discussion with Zooey Deschanel, who sold her female-focused website HelloGiggles to Time Inc. bosses last year (15).
Gwyneth explained, "In order to build the brand I want to build, its scalability is limited if I connect it to the brand. So I always think, 'How can I grow the brand? How can I separate myself from the brand?' And I think it's going to be more its own brand."
The star, 43, went on to reveal her hope is to be completely disassociated with the company.
"More and more I would like it to be its own brand," she continued. "My dream is that one day no one will remember that I had anything to do with it.
Gwyneth, who has scaled back her acting career in recent years to build her lifestyle brand, also reflected on how tough, but exciting, it has been to enter a completely new industry and establish Goop as a respectable business.
"There are so many challenges, just in terms of everything that I had to learn and everything I didn't know - there was so much I didn't know I didn't know," she remarked. "The challenges I encounter every day running a business and operating a business are incredibly fulfilling, and totally terrifying and really awesome. So it's been an amazing journey."
