Hamm doesn't want 70s wardrobe

Jon Hamm plays Don Draper in Mad Men

Mad Men star Jon Hamm won't be happy if the hit TV series moves into the 1970s - because he doesn't want to wear flares.

The cult Sixties drama, set in the world of advertising, is about to return to screens with a sixth series.

Jon, who plays enigmatic advertising executive Don Draper in the show, admitted: "I don't know if Mad Men gets to the Seventies.

"Hopefully we won't. I lived through the Seventies and I'd rather not get into those clothes again."

But the Bridesmaids star said he was bowled over by the success of the show, set in New York, with a global audience.

"It's amazing to me that what seems to be a very specific story about a specific period in American culture has resonated throughout the world," he said.

"There's just something global about the way men and women deal with each other and personal lives, private lives and professional lives moulding together and I think that speaks well in many languages."

:: Mad Men returns to Sky Atlantic HD with a double episode on Wednesday, April 10.
