Harry Styles signs solo recording deal - report
One Direction star Harry Styles has signed a solo recording contract with Columbia Records, according to reports.
Harry Styles has reportedly signed a solo recording contract with Columbia Records.
According to Billboard.com, the 22-year-old star has made the decision to stick with Columbia - the same label behind his group One Direction - as he goes it alone.
Editors at the outlet report that terms of the deal are as yet unknown, and there is currently no timeline for a solo album.
The news comes after Harry hinted he would be the first current member of One Direction to go solo during the group's hiatus, when he registered four songs with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) last year (15) and moved management companies.
OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder also spoke about working with Harry on solo material earlier this year (16), admitting he has no idea what is going to happen to the songs they worked on together.
"We've done a couple of things, I have no idea what they're for. I don't know if he's doing an album, I truthfully don't," he told radio network Key103.
Since One Direction went on hiatus earlier this year (16), the boys have been working on their own projects. Liam Payne has been writing music, Louis Tomlinson is working on his record label and looking after son Freddie, and Niall Horan has been working on his golf management agency. Niall is also eyeing up a solo career, according to reports, with Simon Cowell's label Syco and One Direction's management Modest.
Harry has also been kept busy with his fledgling acting career, after landing a role in Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk, a World War II drama about the evacuation of Allied troops from French beaches in 1940.
