Hayley Atwell to star in US series

Hayley Atwell has apparently landed a major US TV role starring in a Captain America spin-off.

The London-born actress, 31, is set to start work on Agent Carter, a "big budget" production from Marvel, the Daily Mirror reports.

The series is a spin-off featuring Hayley's character, agent Peggy Carter, from the Captain America movies.

A source was quoted as saying: "Hayley is absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity and is incredibly grateful to Marvel fans who have basically been campaigning for a spin-off show for the past six months.

"It means moving to LA for six months but her friends and family are all behind her, and this is a huge opportunity."

Hayley, who has dual British and American citizenship, recently addressed speculation that her alter-ego, Peggy, could feature in a spin-off series, saying: "The one-shot (a video short ) was so successful, the fanbase were like, 'We want more of Peggy!'

"I think Marvel probably take that very seriously, and it's certainly something I would be a part of doing. I'd be interested to show different sides of Peggy."

In 2007, another British actress, ex-EastEnder Michelle Ryan, landed the title role in US show Bionic Woman but the show was axed after only one series.
