Heigl: My priorities were messed up

Katherine Heigl has spoken about how family obligations convinced her to quit Grey’s Anatomy.

The 35-year-old actress abruptly quit her role on hit TV show Grey’s Anatomy in 2010, having first appeared on the programme in 2005.

The star is mother to two adopted daughters and at the time she left the series, Katherine felt it necessary to focus less on work and more on parenting.

“I felt like my priorities were messed up. I was putting so much time and energy into just my work, but I was raised [to believe] that family comes first,” she revealed in the September issue of Good Housekeeping magazine.

“I would come home angry and frustrated that I’d missed everything with my kid that day. I didn’t get to wake her up from her nap or do bath time or bedtime. I’d have to sneak into her room and kiss her when she was sleeping, hoping not to wake her up.”

Katherine and her husband Josh Kelley are parents to Naleigh, five, and Adalaide, two.

Adalaide is from Louisiana and Naleigh was born in South Korea, the birthplace of Katherine’s adoptive sister.

Apparently Naleigh was extremely protective of her little sister when she was introduced to the family in 2012 as an infant.

“We brought her home and right away Naleigh was like a little mommy,” Katherine recalled. “She’d say, ‘No, no. You’re not holding her right.’ Or, ‘She needs to eat again.’ I’d be like, ‘Would you back off? Just give me a minute!’ ”

The actress will next appear in State of Affairs opposite Alfre Woodard, a spy drama TV show that begins broadcasting in the US November 17.
