Helen Mirren slams Twitter
Dame Helen Mirren would never set up a social media account but is eager for people to remember her as a "nice person".
The legendary British actress has been in the movie industry for more than 45 years, and is still one of the most bankable names in Hollywood.
Despite still being very much in demand, Helen has never bowed to the peer pressure of starting up profiles on popular social media sites.
“It reminds me of a stinky old pub. In the corner would be this slightly disgusting old man who sits there all day, every day. If you went up and talked to him, you’d get the kind of grumpy, horrible, mouldy, old meaningless [expletive] that you read on Twitter," she sighed to AARP The Magazine.
London born Helen currently has three new movies in the pipeline, including Eye in the Sky opposite Aaron Paul and fellow Brit Colin Firth.
With such a varied and lustrous career to look back over, 68-year-old Helen took a moment to consider the legacy she hopes to leave behind.
“I’d like to be remembered as a productive person and someone who at least did no harm. And certainly as a great artist, because that’s been my primary motivating force. And also, as a nice person - though I’m sure a lot of people don’t think I’m nice!” she laughed.
On the subject of family, Helen, who has no children, says she doesn't have any regrets.
She married director Taylor Hackford in 1997, after more than 20 years of courtship.
"I never felt the need for a child and never felt the loss of it. I’d always put my work before anything," she revealed.
“I pursued the kind of career that I wanted to pursue which was not to do with fame and fortune. I was a pretty successful actress… but didn’t become a household name because the kind of material I did was quite esoteric.”
