Playing Superman in Man of Steel has turned Henry Cavill into a "geek".

The British star takes on the part of the iconic superhero in Man of Steel, which has already become a box office success.

Reading comic books to get in the right frame of mind was a big part of Henry's preparation.

"There was lots of time geeking out and being really excited about everything, rubbing hands and lots of laughing, whooping and hollering," he explained to British magazine OK!

The star has impressed everyone by bulking up and putting on an American accent.

On both counts, the training process was rather similar.

"The accent is one of those things that you practise and you drill," he revealed.

"It's like going to the gym and training for sprinting, as opposed to long-distance running. You just practise and practise and practise and it starts to come a bit more naturally."

Although Henry might look like he has his life under control now, he hasn't always been so confident.

The star related to his Clark Kent/Superman character by drawing on past experiences.

"I was fat. I was Fat Cavill," he previously admitted.

"[At boarding school I was prone to homesickness] I bawled on the phone to my mom four times a day, I became an easy target. My version of Superman is essentially of a guy who has spent his whole life alone."
