Heroes cast weren't prepped for cancellation

Heroes creator Tim Kring has spoken about the new show Heroes Reborn.

Series creator Tim Kring has been talking about the NBC show as is new series, Heroes Reborn, gears up for its September debut.

Heroes ran from 2006 for four seasons, starring Hayden Panettiere and Zachary Quinto. It told the story of ordinary people discovering they have superpowers and was a hit with fans. However, Tim never got to produce the finale he'd planned as the show was pulled.

"We didn't know we were going off the air," Tim said, reports Access Hollywood, adding that the last scene where Claire (Hayden) goes public with her powers was "an obligatory baton pass" to pave the way for a follow-up.

"The exact amount of time it’s been off is the exact amount of time the story has moved. We're treating this not as the fifth season, but more like the tenth."

Heroes Reborn sees original cast members like Jack Coleman, Masi Oka and Greg Grunberg reunite, with fresh faces also thrown into the mix.

For the show's reboot, Tim has learnt from mistakes he made on Heroes, namely the shooting schedule.

"The biggest pitfall always was the amount of story we had to tell in a year," he said.

This time around the 22 episode format has been scrapped in favour of 13 segments, which will hopefully keep ratings consistent.

"[Reborn will deliver] 50 pounds of story in a ten-pound bag," Tim smiled.
