Vera Farmiga may play the mother of a future killer in Bates Motel, but her co-star Freddie Highmore has revealed their off-screen relationship is a lot less complicated.
The US TV show, inspired by Hitchcock's 1960 classic Psycho, sees Vera playing Norma Bates, mother to teenage Norman.
"She's my new best friend," Freddie laughed at the series' Los Angeles premiere.
The Oscar-nominated actress is mother to son Finn, four, and two-year-old daughter Gytta - and Freddie said the children were "lucky" to have Vera as a parent.
"She's lovely - the same can't be said about Norman and Norma, but her kids are very lucky to have her as their mum."
