Hoff exits Dancing With The Stars

Baywatch star David Hasselhoff found the ballroom a harder environment than the beach.

The 58-year-old entertainer was the first celebrity voted off the new season of Dancing With The Stars, the US equivalent of Strictly Come Dancing.

Hasselhoff and his professional partner, Kym Johnson, were ousted from the TV celebrity dance competition after performing just one dance.

They landed in last place for a cha-cha-cha that judges roundly criticised. Bruno Tonioli called it "a potpourri of insanity disguised as dance."

The couple landed in last place, tied with Jersey Shore star Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino and comedian Margaret Cho. Hasselhoff took the dismissal in his stride, saying, "Hey, we tried", when his name was called.

"It's been a great ride," Hasselhoff said after learning his fate. "I feel bad for Kym because she worked hard trying to get me where I was going. I'm so proud that my daughters are here and they got to see me come this far."

"I think his daughters are more upset than he is," said Johnson, who added she was disappointed she wouldn't get to perform a ballroom routine with Hasselhoff, which might have suited him better.

Hasselhoff said he joined the hit ABC dance competition because his family are fans. Daughters Hayley and Taylor were in the audience for the show and said they were proud of his performance.

Back to dance another week will be singer-actress Brandy; actors Jennifer Grey, Florence Henderson and Kyle Massey; athletes Rick Fox and Kurt Warner; reality stars Audrina Patridge and Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino; singer Michael Bolton; comedienne Margaret Cho; and political daughter Bristol Palin.

Dancing With The Stars is aired in the UK on Watch, starting on Thursday at 9pm.
