Hollyoaks favourite Gary Lucy returning to soap role after 15 years

Luke was last seen on the programme in 2002, when his character returned for his parents' Andy and Sue's second wedding.

Gary Lucy is set to reprise his role as Luke Morgan in Hollyoaks, 15 years after he last starred in the soap.

The 35-year-old actor, who starred in the Channel 4 series from 1999 to 2002, hit headlines when his character was involved in a controversial male rape storyline during a late-night episode of the show back in 2000.

Luke was last seen on the programme in 2002, when his character returned for his parents' Andy and Sue's second wedding.

But after he was spotted on set last week (end21May17), a Hollyoaks spokesperson confirmed Gary will soon be making a comeback on the show.

According to the Daily Star Sunday newspaper, Gary has been given an 18-month contract, with bosses convinced he will be a hit with viewers because he was so popular the first time around.

"Producers have some massive storylines planned for Gary. He will be at the centre of the action. They know how talented he is and also how popular he is with viewers," a source told the newspaper. "Because he’ll be back for at least 18 months it will be possible for him to have some really meaty storylines."

The publication adds that producers have been trying to convince Gary to return "for months", but his work commitments with stage show The Full Monty over the last year have prevented his comeback.

But now that has come to an end, they have managed to persuade him to return to Chester, following Luke's exit to become a football coach in Canada.

"It’s taken a while to get this sorted. But now it’s all signed everyone is thrilled to have him in the show," the source added.

As well as his role in Hollyoaks, Gary has taken on successful parts in shows including Footballers' Wives, Casualty and EastEnders.

He has also been kept busy with his personal life, as he's father to daughters India and Sadie and son Elvis with wife Natasha Gray.
