Holmes and Cruise 'fought viciously'

Katie Holmes and her estranged husband actor Tom Cruise reportedly "fought over" Scientology edicts.

The 33-year-old actress filed divorce papers against Tom last week.

Katie is rumoured to have been particularly concerned over how the pair were raising their six-year-old daughter Suri.

Brought up Catholic, Katie converted to Tom's religion Scientology when they wed five years ago and wasn't a fan of some of the faith's parenting practices.

"[They] fought viciously," a source told Us Weekly magazine. "[One Scientology doctrine allows parents to] treat kids like grown-ups. [Tom was] all-around overindulgent. Katie struggled to be a disciplinarian"

Tom's other children with former wife Nicole Kidman, 17-year-old Connor and 19-year-old Isabella, were homeschooled by Scientologists.

Katie wants Suri to pursue more mainstream scholarship.

"They fought over schools," the source continued. "She wants to be in charge of how Suri is being raised and didn't want her to have an exclusively Scientology education."

Katie is seeking sole custody of Suri and recently submitted papers for an emergency hearing to be held before a New York family court judge.
