Hugh Jackman has phoned Russell Crowe for advice on "three of four key occasions" in his life.
The pair star alongside each other in the new musical film Les Misérables, and although they are at war with each other onscreen, Hugh says it couldn't be further from the truth in real life.
The Australian actor is thankful for Russell's support and friendship over the years.
"I've known Russell for years, we've been friends for a long time, and he's actually given me advice on three or four key occasions in my life where I've called him as a mate and he's been extraordinary to me," he smiled to Access Hollywood, before refusing to divulge what occasions they were.
Russell turned down the part of Wolverine - a role that catapulted Hugh to international stardom. After he declined the X-Men role, Russell recommended his friend Hugh to director Bryan Singer - something he will be eternally grateful for.
"You can't!" he laughed when asked what he can do to ever repay him. "I bought him a few beers the other night and I said, 'Is that enough?' and he said, 'No!'"
Hugh portrays lead character Jean Valjean in the big screen version of Les Misérables, which also stars Anne Hathaway and Amanda Seyfried.
