Hugh Jackman jokes about Oscar bet
Hugh Jackman has joked about his likelihood of winning the best actor Oscar on February 24.
The Australian star is in the running for the best actor Academy Award, alongside Daniel, Bradley Cooper, Joaquin Phoenix and Denzel Washington.
Daniel has already triumphed at the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards and is widely tipped to collect the trophy on February 24.
Hugh can't wait for the ceremony and isn't getting too wound up about his nomination.
"The way that I look at it is, I’m just going to put money on him. That way it’s a win-win. Right?" he laughed to Access Hollywood at the Oscar nominees’ luncheon in Beverly Hills yesterday.
"And the other three as well… I’m going to put money on them all. Like, a lot of money."
Hugh's movie Les Misérables is in the running for eight Oscars, with Anne Hathaway mentioned in the best supporting actress category and the release up for best movie.
Russell Crowe also appears in the picture and has been there for Hugh throughout awards season.
"He’s been amazing through this whole process, he’s someone whose been there many times before and he’s been on the end of the phone several times and [is] really, really supportive," Hugh gushed.
Later in the day Hugh appeared alongside Jessica Chastain on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Jessica has been nominated for the best actress Academy Award for her role in Zero Dark Thirty, with the release vying against Les Misérables to be named best picture.
The two stars put their rivalry aside though and discussed how much fun they had at the earlier Oscars luncheon. As part of the event all the nominees posed for an official photograph, with Hugh and Jessica standing together.
The hunk joked he is forever in debt to Jessica, as she was on hand to give him advice as they were posing.
"I was standing next to the Oscar statuette, standing there for about three minutes, I said, 'Jessica, it's taking all my willpower not to put the bunny ears on the Oscar,'" he laughed. "And she said, 'That's hilarious. Don't do it.'”
Jessica opened up about her career while being interviewed, explaining working with Al Pacino on 2011 movie Wilde Salomé is something she will always hold dear. She was amazed by how open and honest he was with her, calling him her "acting godfather".
"He's super intense. I learned so much. But he did tell me on my first day on set while I was hoarding all this food at the craft service table - Al says to me, 'Jessica I've got a piece of advice for you.' So I'm thinking, 'Here it comes - the best piece of advice from the greatest living actor - what is it?'
And he says, 'Never eat anything off the craft service table,'" she laughed.
