I'm too old to be a sex symbol, says Strictly's Carol Kirkwood

Weather presenter and forthcoming Strictly Come Dancing contestant Carol Kirkwood has said she is "too old" to be considered a sex symbol.

The 53-year-old meteorologist, a regular on BBC Breakfast, said she has been inundated with messages from admirers - as a cursory glance of comments on her twitter feed will testify.

Despite the messages from her army of male admirers, Kirkwood said she is more like "your girl next door".

She told the Express: "I certainly don't think of myself as a sex symbol and probably never would. For goodness sake, I am too old.

"On TV I probably come across as quite confident but I am actually quite shy.

"I have had marriage proposals - and all kinds of other proposals - and get asked out for dinner a lot and that's really nice, but I am not a sex symbol."

Strictly begins on BBC1 on Friday. Contestants include singers Jamelia and Peter Andre, chef Ainsley Harriott and newscaster Katie Derham.
