There was great risk involved in dyeing Miranda Lambert’s hair pink for the 2015 Country Music Association Awards, according to celebrity hairstylist Johnny Lavoy.

Miranda lit up the red carpet at the event with her daring ‘do, a platinum blonde and pink combination that brushed her shoulders while framing the star’s face.

Her stylist for the evening Johnny did not proceed without caution though, as he chose to utilise dyed clip-in extensions as a test before giving Miranda the pink treatment.

“Because of the risk involved, I thought the smartest plan would be making some clip-in extensions and try out the colour and see if she liked it,” he explained to PeopleStyle.

Johnny had several elements in mind while creating Miranda’s hairdo, as he wanted to “complement her sexy, sleek black Versace dress”.

Thankfully he did not have to venture far for inspiration because one of his colleagues had already experimented in the direction Johnny wanted to go.

“I noticed her Nashville colourist, Lee Wright, had added a few pastel pink streaks in her hair, so I wanted to do something fun and different this year for the CMA Awards,” he detailed. “We talked about adding to what she already had and going for a pink ombré [look], and the idea went into motion.”

Johnny flat ironed Miranda’s locks using a PRO Beauty Tools 1-inch Professional Ceramic Shine Digital Straightener and then the coiffeur added “deconstructed rock ‘n’ roll waves” to add some striking texture to the look. Johnny found the final result “soft, edgy and chic”, just what he was aiming for.

Miranda was so pleased with sporting the adventurous hue on the night, it is likely she will adopt even more gutsy hairstyles in the future.

“This was the first time Miranda played with a bold colour,” Johnny shared. “And she loved it so [much] that I don’t think it will be the last.”

He even suspects Miranda might opt for various shades of pink, considering it is her more beloved shade of all time.

“It’s no secret that Miranda’s favorite color is pink,” Johnny smiled. “She owns a store named the Pink Pistol and just came of her all-women tour, called Roadside Bars & Pink Guitars.”
