Ireland Baldwin's parents reportedly realise it is up to her alone to get through her spell in rehab.

Yesterday the 19-year-old model confirmed she was in rehab after rumours spread on line. It was suggested she was getting help for substance abuse, which she strongly denied.

Now it's been claimed Ireland was encouraged to get help by her mother and father Kim Basinger and Alec Baldwin, who are trying their best to support her through this tough time.

"Both of her parents are really playing tough love with her but it is because they have to. They both love their daughter so much and would do anything for her," a source told RadarOnline. “But ultimately it will be up to Ireland on whether or not she is going to take this seriously.”

Ireland is said to have started her stint at a clinic in Malibu over the weekend, with Kim accompanying her there.

The RadarOnline source again mentioned substance abuse, but that is known not to be the reason why Ireland is being treated. Following speculation about her online last night, the star took to Twitter to be open about why she needs help. Although Ireland didn't go into detail, she explained there are some huge emotional issues she's been battling for a while and which she needs help to work through.

"I checked myself into Soba for two weeks to just get away for a little bit. I'm not much a party cat but I am here deal with some emotional trauma and getting the intensive therapy I needed in order to recover. Someday I'll feel ready to share my story openly without feeling the way I do. Right now I just needed a breather. I needed a chance to work on myself and gather all the tools I need to overcome everything that I had been through and rid myself of all the pain I locked away in unreachable places (sic)," she wrote.

Ireland left it there, although she was back on the social networking site today hinting there is a lot more to what's going on than people think.

"Everyday is a blessing. You don't even know the half," she wrote.
