Jack O'Connell: Lack of food led to crazy dreams

Jack O'Connell feels inspired to help people since meeting Angelina Jolie.

The actor has had an amazing start to 2015, with the part in the Angelina Jolie-directed film landing him an EE Rising Star BAFTA nomination.

For the part of prisoner of war Louis Zamperini, Jack had to lose a great deal of weight and it wreaked havoc on his everyday life.

"My dreams were very weird at the time, totally crazy," he admitted to freundin.de.

"When you weigh so little, you can't really concentrate - you just don't have the energy. But when you hear the word 'action' on set, that's exactly what you need.

"When you are portraying someone, you're not allowed to concentrate on the scene. You have to let your acting guide you. Add to that the fact that Louis really was very hungry in those situations, and I had to feel that in those scenes."Jack O'Connell had strange dreams while filming Unbroken.

The 24-year-old started off in British TV show Skins and has gone on to be praised for movies including Starred Up and '71. He's yet to make his mark on the Academy Awards, but it's looking bright.

"As an actor, the Oscar is definitely something to aim for; it's proof of your abilities," he reasoned.

"But I don't define myself as a person, a human, with those kinds of awards. For me personally, there are more important things: I want to travel the world and help people, like Angelina does. That's something I really strive to do."
