Jacobi's King Lear hit by blackout
Derek Jacobi's latest play was plunged into darkness and hundreds of theatregoers had to be sent home after a power cut one hour into a performance.
King Lear, at the Donmar Warehouse in Covent Garden in central London, stars the veteran actor in the title role as the troubled monarch.
A spokeswoman for the 250-seater theatre said every member of the audience at last night's performance would be contacted individually and offered their money back.
The production, which co-stars Gina McKee as Lear's daughter Goneril, continues its sold-out run until February 5 when it goes on tour.
It has received rave reviews with the Guardian describing Jacobi's performance as "overwhelmingly moving".
