Jada Pinkett Smith: My fans are young

Jada Pinkett Smith attracts "the nursery school crowd" thanks to the Madagascar films.

The actress voices the character of hippo Gloria in the movie and has been promoting the latest instalment, Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted, at the Cannes Film Festival.

She has enjoyed her involvement in the franchise, which is often brought up when she meets children.

"The only thing is that when parents introduce me to their kids they say: 'She's Gloria!' And they go: 'Oh my God! Gloria?' You get the nursery school crowd," Jada laughed.

The star is married to Will Smith and they have 13-year-old Jaden and Willow, 11, together. Their children have followed them into the entertainment business, Jaden is an actor and Willow has released music.

Jada has never pushed her kids in a certain direction, insisting that isn't her style.

"We could walk out of this room right now and have our lives completely change. That's just the truth of it. And I surely am not going to try to control the current. Lord knows I tried that in my own life," she told British newspaper The Guardian.

"For me to think that I could ever do that for someone else. Boy! I'm not gonna set myself up in that way. I can barely control my own doggone current! So I'm there in great support and so that they can have whatever the higher power has to offer them."
