Jamie Dornan: Shades isn’t shocking
Jamie Dornan's "liberal" upbringing proved useful when he read the Fifty Shades of Grey script.
The actor will portray dominating lothario Christian Grey in the hotly-anticipated movie, with Dakota Johnson playing his innocent lover Anastasia Steele. Both stars appear on the front cover of Entertainment Weekly and embrace their roles with Jamie holding a tie as he protectively hugs a timid Dakota. While the film is based on the erotic novel of the same name and will feature explicit scenes, Jamie is taking it all in his stride.
"I’m a fairly worldly guy. I grew up in a very liberal place. I’m not saying we had a playroom, but I’m not shocked by [the sex in the book]," he explained. "It’s essential to tell the story. I can’t believe films that don’t invoke the sexual side of it. So it works for me."
Jamie realises there is huge expectations on him to accurately portray Christian following the success of author EL James' best-selling trilogy. The 31-year-old heartthrob took over the role after Charlie Hunnam dropped out of the project last month.
"There was a slight fear. But beyond anything else, I was really f**king excited," he explained.
Dakota also revealed her nerves ahead of the film. The 24-year-old has transformed from a blonde to brunette and is busy getting in shape to prepare for her numerous nude scenes.
"Obviously, I want to look good naked," she said. "I totally understand now why people exercise, because it kind of f**king feels awesome."
The movie was originally slated for release on August 1 2014, but has been pushed back until Valentine's Day 2015.
