January Jones says being a single mother hasn't drastically changed her, she just has "an added amazing thing" in her life now.
The actress gave birth to her son Xander in September 2011 and has never confirmed who the child's father is.
She is happy caring for her son alone and can't understand why people are so preoccupied with her not having a man around.
"People keep saying, 'Oh poor you, being a single mom.' But I don't want to be pitied. I can do anything I want to do. I work, I date, I have friends. I have time for everything I had time for before," she told the latest edition of UK magazine Glamour. "I just have an added amazing thing in my life. I don't think being a single mom is something I need to feel sorry about or need to go to group therapy over. It's really a joy in my life and that's it."
The 35-year-old star thrives on being busy, which is why she's adapted to motherhood so well. She has always wanted to have children and would never dream of complaining now her wish has come true.
"I'm the sort of person who likes to juggle many things at once. I manage my time better when I have a lot going on. So I feel good with that energy about the baby and making sure he's on schedule," she explained. "And I don't require a lot of support. I have a great family and friends, and I know they'd be there if I needed help, but I feel like I'm going it fine on my own."
January famously returned to work on TV show Mad Men just six weeks after giving birth. She later revealed she had her placenta dehydrated and made into tablets following the birth. She believes the capsules helped her through the difficult first few months of Xander's life, although now she wishes she hadn't been so open.
"I should never have told anyone about that," she said. "It's so f**king stupid that so many people cared. But it's not gross or witchcrafty. Nor am I putting it in a shake or eating it raw. It's a very civilised thing that can help women with depression or fatigue. I was never depressed or sad or down after the baby was born, so I'd highly suggest it to any pregnant woman."
January is currently single following the end of her romance with director Noah Miller earlier this year.
At the moment she's happy alone and has decided not to put pressure on herself. She also won't rule out dating a man in show business, although that comes with its own set of issues.
"In life, you tend to date the people who are around you, people you see every day," she said. "Unfortunately, it's difficult to date someone who does our job because it's so transient. You're never in the same place for long."
