Jared Leto: I give work my all
Jared Leto's success has come from his hard work and dedication, after being born "really poor".
The 42-year-old actor is in the running for an Oscar at this year's Academy Awards, having been nominated for his portrayal of an AIDS sufferer in Dallas Buyers Club.
The role has already bagged him the Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild prizes for best supporting actor.
As well as a successful return to acting following a six-year break, Jared is also the lead singer of 30 Seconds to Mars, and often headlines festivals around the world with the band.
"I've worked hard for everything in my life. I was born really poor in Louisiana and I put myself through school like my mother did," Jared explained to British magazine Marie Claire.
"I've said this before, kind of as a joke, but it's true: when she was a teenager she climbed out of the muddy banks of the Mississippi with her two kids in one hand and a fistful of food stamps in the other. So I don't take any of this for granted."
In terms of his love life, Jared confirms that he is single.
After a high profile relationship with Cameron Diaz, that even saw the couple become engaged, Jared has been linked to a string of beautiful women.
He recently was spotted with Taylor Swift at the Golden Globe Awards, and was also rumoured to be close to Alexa Chung. But Jared says looks can be deceiving.
"You know sometimes you get linked to someone you've never met and you're like, 'I wouldn't mind actually getting to know her,'" he laughed.
With a busy schedule he's not actively looking for love right now and certainly won't be settling down yet.
"I hate that term [settling down]. What does that mean? Does that mean stop working hard? It means you're settling for something. Whatever I do, it's going to be challenging and unexpected. That's what I demand of myself and what everybody should demand of themselves and their lives," he said.
