Jennifer Metcalfe wants another decade on Hollyoaks
Jennifer Metcalfe loves the fact her Hollyoaks character Mercedes McQueen has been given a prison storyline, because she enjoys it when her alter-ego gets into trouble.
Jennifer Metcalfe wants to stay on Hollyoaks for another 10 years.
The 33-year-old actress has been playing Mercedes McQueen on the Channel 4 soap since 2006. Despite having recently marked a decade on the show, Jennifer insists she doesn't see herself leaving the programme any time soon, and would love to see how her alter-ego matures.
"In April it was my decade, I’m pushing ten and half years but it seems like two. I’d love to stay another 10 years. I’ve signed until end of next year so I’m here until the foreseeable," Jennifer told The Sun Online.
“They keep coming up with really original stuff that I still 10 years later enjoy playing. I’d be interested to see her progression, how she gets older and sees how she matures. I like her because she’s not one dimensional there are so many sides to her, I love playing her and I will miss her (if I leave)."
Mercedes has had her fair share of exciting storylines during her time on the programme and is currently locked up in prison on drugs charges. Being behind bars is a plot twist Jennifer has thoroughly enjoyed filming, because she loves it when her character is in trouble.
"It’s a fantastic storyline. I love it when she’s getting into trouble, I’m always like ‘more please’, I love it when she’s floating around the village causing chaos," Jennifer added.
“(Mercedes) has done everything and anything, every time they throw a storyline at me I think she can’t do anything else! I do enjoy playing Mercedes at her best and any prison storyline is going to make me made up."
Jennifer's personal life is as successful as her professional one, with her relationship with one-time Geordie Shore star Greg Lake going from strength to strength.
