Jeremy Clarkson's foul-mouthed response to Chris Evans' diss story
Jeremy Clarkson launched a strenuous denial on his Twitter page after it was claimed James May had said he was "chuffed" following Chris Evans' announcement that he is leaving Top Gear.
Jeremy Clarkson has slammed reports claiming James May said he was "chuffed" about Chris Evans' Top Gear exit.
Chris stepped down as host of the motoring programme earlier this month (Jul16), after revealing he had given it his "best shot". Jeremy, James and Richard Hammond were formerly presenters of the show and have now signed up to host a new series on Amazon Prime called The Grand Tour.
The trio were in Vicenza, Italy, shooting scenes for the programme on Thursday (07Jul16), and it was reported on the Daily Mail Online that James was heard saying he was "very chuffed" about Chris' departure.
Following the publication of the story, Jeremy took to his Twitter page to dismiss the claims, using a typically foul-mouthed approach to do so.
"The mail online's report of what happened in Italy today is utter utter horses**t," Jeremy tweeted. "Whoever wrote it should be ashamed of themselves."
Jeremy then called out the author or the article in question, and added: "We have you on camera. We can prove you made the quotes up. You're a disgrace."
James previously came out in support of Chris, insisting it is unfair that the BBC continued to show repeats of past Top Gear episodes ahead of the new series debuting.
"I was surprised they showed lots of Top Gear compilations over Christmas," James told the Radio Times. "I thought, 'Oh, so now they're celebrating us,' but I also thought it's harsh on Chris Evans.
"Just as he's trying to launch his version of the programme, the BBC is saying, 'Look how brilliant it was before.'"
Chris was announced as presenter of the revamped show alongside former Friends actor Matt LeBlanc. Despite Chris' exit, Matt is expected to continue in his role, after being widely praised by viewers and critics alike for his approachable presenting style.
