Jessie J head-shave 'top TV tweet'

Jessie J shaved her head

Jessie J's brave decision to shave her head live on Comic Relief was the television moment most tweeted about in 2013, a survey has found.

The Price Tag singer triggered more than 1.5 million messages from Twitter users as she chopped off her long locks to raise money for Red Nose Day in March, according to Freeview.

One Direction star Harry Styles' reaction to the appearance of ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift at the Brit Awards sparked more than 1.48 million tweets, while the moment Simon Cowell was pelted with eggs on the Britain's Got Talent final resulted in 820,000 tweets.

The finale of ITV series Broadchurch was the top television drama moment of the year on Twitter, attracting 260,000 tweets, Freeview found.

Hit dramas Skins, Top Boy, Waterloo Road, Downton Abbey, Luther and Sherlock also featured in the top 10.

Guy North, Freeview's marketing communications director, said: "Last year, the Olympics dominated social conversation about TV, so we wanted to find out which moments really brought the nation together this year.

"All of the programmes in the top 10 were available subscription-free and could be enjoyed by everyone. TV unites people, it always has done, so it's great to see this passion transcend into online conversation."

The survey was carried out by social analytics company SecondSync which measured the number of tweets sent during television shows, with key moments derived from the most frequent Twitter conversations.
