Joan Collins: I won't slow down

Joan Collins has said turning 81 this week will not slow her down and pledged to "take advantage of life and do everything I want to do".

The former Dynasty actress, who recently launched a range of skin care products, said society was obsessed with youth.

She told Hello! magazine: " It's like it's the most precious commodity that exists and that's not just cosmetics, but also in fashion, theatre, television, film. It's youth, youth, youth."

Joan added: " You have to eat life or life will eat you. I think you only realise how short life is when you get past 50. Then you think, 'How much time do I have left?' I'm going to take advantage of life and do everything I want to do.

"I don't want to climb Everest, I have no ambitions to hurl myself down Niagara Falls. I just want to continue doing the things that make me happy and for me, that's being with my family and friends, enjoying my homes."

Speaking earlier this year, Joan said that when it comes to fashion she "won't be defined by age" and will wear a bikini if she wants to.
