Joan Rivers dead
Joan Rivers has passed away after being hospitalised while undergoing a routine surgery last week.
The comedienne was hospitalised on August 28 after she stopped breathing while undergoing a procedure at a New York City clinic.
And on Thursday her daughter Melissa announced Joan died.
“It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers,” Melissa wrote in a statement released to Deadline.
“She passed peacefully at 1:17pm surrounded by family and close friends.”
Joan received treatment at Mount Sinai Hospital and the star was in critical condition when she first reached the medical centre. The comedy icon was then put on life support and the New York Daily News reported doctors were attempting to life her from a medically induced coma earlier this week.
“My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother. Cooper and I have found ourselves humbled by the outpouring of love, support, and prayers we have received from around the world. They have been heard and appreciated,” Melissa said.
Joan’s loving daughter ended the statement noting her mother would have wanted to fans to remember her in a good light.
“My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon,” Melissa added.
The clinic that conducted the operation which left Joan on life support is currently being investigated by the New York State Health Department.
