Joanna Lumley joins the Dalai Lama in Derry for Children in Crossfire anniversary event

Actress and activist Joanna Lumley joined His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet in Londonderry on Monday.

The BAFTA winning star attended a talk at the Millennium Forum in the city as part of the Children in Crossfire charity's 20th anniversary celebrations.

Ms Lumley is one of the speakers at a conference, which follows the Dalai Lama appearing as a guest of honour at a public talk entitled ‘Compassion in Action’ on Sunday.

During the event the spiritual leader called for a denuclearised world and warned force would not solve the current North Korean crisis.

Ms Lumley previously said she was "honoured" to be invited to take part in Children in Crossfire’s 20th Anniversary.

She added: "His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, is a spiritual leader who knows and understands the power of ‘Compassion in Action’ on a global scale. I am also delighted to be associated with such a wonderful organisation that is doing inspirational work to help vulnerable children across the world.”

Founded in 1996, Children in Crossfire aims to help children in some of the poorest countries in the world.

The anti-poverty organisation was established by Richard Moore, who was blinded after he was injured during the Northern Ireland conflict.
