Scarlett Johansson has dismissed rumours she is engaged to her French journalist boyfriend, Romain Dauriac.

The 28-year-old actress was spotted wearing an impressive diamond ring on her engagement finger while running errands in New York City on Monday.

Rumours quickly began to swirl the star was ready to wed for a second time.

A spokesperson for the actress has now put speculation to rest.

"Scarlett is absolutely not engaged," he told

The representative did not elaborate on why Scarlett was wearing the pear-shaped diamond on her wedding finger.

Scarlett has been dating Romain for only a few months, after splitting from Nate Naylor in October of last year.

Their romance is clearly going strong since she brought him as her date to the New York premiere of her movie Hitchcock in November.

The couple have been inseparable in recent months and were beaming as they held hands during a visit to a tattoo parlour in the East Village earlier this week.

Scarlett was previously wed to actor Ryan Reynolds.

The former couple ended their two-year marriage in 2011 and he has since married actress Blake Lively.

But Scarlett recently admitted she’s not so keen to jump into exchanging vows again.

“It’s not important to me. It has no relevance to me right now. I’m not having kids any time soon, I’m in a nice relationship,” she recently told Elle UK.

“I got married when I was young and it was incredibly romantic and I liked being married, actually. But it is different. It’s hard to put into words. To me, being in a functioning relationship doesn’t mean you have to be married,” she explained.

The Avengers star also said she rarely thinks about marriage.

The subject seems to come up more frequently in interviews than she would like.

"The only time I ever think about it is when people ask me, 'Would I get married again?'" she mused, asking, “Is that weird?”
