Johnny Depp is not afraid of having "chaos" in his life.

The Hollywood star and his partner Vanessa Paradis have been beset by rumours they are on the verge of splitting recently. There have even been reports they have already parted ways, although Vanessa dismissed all the speculation last week.

Before he started dating Vanessa around 14 years ago, Johnny, 48, was renowned for his love of partying. He then settled down, but it's been claimed he is beginning to revisit his old ways.

"When he made [2011 movie] The Rum Diary with Bruce Robinson, he was more like the old Johnny, drinking whisky in the afternoon and hanging out at night. I think he wants to admit he has a darker side, and he needs space to work out who he is," a source told the British edition of Grazia magazine. "He's approaching 50 and he's breaking himself down. Johnny has no fear of chaos. He's doesn't want to hurt his kids or Vanessa, but he has to be true to himself."

Vanessa has apparently been spending increased amounts of time with her family in France as the pair work on their romance.
