Jon Hamm: Sexiness is silly

Jon Hamm

Jon Hamm finds his sex symbol status "arbitrary".

The 43-year-old actor's good looks have won him over fans all over the world, especially in his role as Don Draper in Mad Men. However, it seems Jon isn't convinced of his sex symbol status and doesn't understand what people see in him.

"It's silly," he laughed to People. "First of all, it's completely arbitrary. Point me to 50 people online who think I'm super sexy, I'll point you to 50 more who say he's old and looks like my dad. It's not universal. If you buy into that, you're crazy."

His involvement in the hit TV show is the most successful role of his career so far. Now the programme is finishing after its seventh series, Jon will never forget how playing Don boosted his name.

"It's been a long road. And it's coming to an end," he sighed. "But I can't express anything but the deepest gratitude for having worked on Mad Men. It's made me a better actor. And it's taught me how to deal with a lot of stuff in life in general."

When he isn't in front of the camera Jon - who was born in St. Louis, Missouri - keeps himself to himself. He especially enjoys spending time with his girlfriend, actress and screenwriter Jennifer Westfeldt, and their pet pooch Cora. Jon and Jennifer have been together since 1997.

"LA is a crazy city. You want to have a place in your life that you can get to that feels much more real. Mostly I try to keep my head down and go," he explained.

"It's nice that people tell you, 'I like what you do.' A big portion of getting to the place [I've] gotten in my career is recognising that there is a tremendous amount of good fortune and luck. You can never feel entitled."
