Jon Voight: Angelina makes me happy
Jon Voight is happy when his daughter Angelina Jolie is happy.
The 75-year-old actor is father to the Hollywood actress and her brother James Haven, who he had with ex-wife Marcheline Bertrand. Over the years Angelina has become an advocate of humanitarian work, such as her involvement with the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict.
Jon is delighted by his daughter's life changing deeds alongside her acting career and family. Angelina is engaged to Brad Pitt and together they raise adopted children Maddox, Pax and Zahara along with biological kids Shiloh and twins Vivienne and Knox.
"Well I'm always happy when she's happy," Jon told British newspaper The Independent. "And when she does good. And there's a lot of good that she's done, y'know? She does things quietly to the side. I'm very proud of her. And she's a good director now too."
While the pair are on good terms now, for a long time Angelina distanced herself from her father. Jon left Marcheline when Angelina was just a year old, which seemed to be one of the triggers behind their distance.
However, Jon remembers a heart-warming moment when both his children joined him at the Oscars in 1986, where he lost out on a Best Actor award for his role in Runaway Train.
"My name was not announced... [and] my son responded – he just crossed his arms and slunk down in the seat and was really upset that a great injustice had been served!" Jon recalled. "And my daughter to my left put her hand on my arm and said, 'Don't worry Dad, you're wonderful!' It was so sweet."
Jon is gearing up to return to the small screen as Mickey Donovan in TV show Ray Donovan, which is back this year for its second season. While he remained tight-lipped about the plot, he did hint that good things are to come.
"I'm excited. It gives me an opportunity to do a lot of things that I haven't been able to do in the last couple of years," he smiled.
