Jonah Hill was caught 'off guard' by Leonardo DiCaprio prank
The comedy star was flustered after he was targeted by laughing Leo.
Jonah Hill was left genuinely "scared" when Leonardo DiCaprio pranked his pal on the streets of New York City this week (begs01Aug16).
The Wolf of Wall Street co-stars had arranged to meet up in the West Village on Monday (01Aug16), and Leo decided to have some fun with his friend before giving him a proper hello.
The encounter was caught on camera, and in video footage posted online, an unsuspecting Jonah is shown with his head down, looking at his mobile phone, while a bearded Leo, wearing sunglasses and a cap, spotted his friend from down the block.
The Oscar winner quickly pulled out his own cell and ran up to Jonah pretending to be an overzealous fan, eager for a close-up picture of the movie star. He startled the 32-year-old, who recoiled in shock before realising the street snapper was just cheeky Leo.
The pair then hugged it out as Jonah recovered from the unexpected encounter, and he now admits the hilarious prank initially had him scared senseless.
"It was funny! I was totally taken off guard," Hill confessed to Entertainment Tonight. "I was scared s**tless!"
Jonah and Leonardo share a similar sense of humour and became firm friends after co-starring in The Wolf of Wall Street in 2013. They got along so well, Jonah even made Leo purposefully sick while shooting a sushi scene.
Recalling how his improvisation of one line highlighted Leo's commitment to acting, Jonah told Variety, "I was supposed to say 'yes' and then eat it (piece of sushi). But then I said, 'No, buddy, it's all yours,' and then he had to eat it. So he had to match that take for the rest of the night and had to eat about 70 pieces of raw yellowtail and was throwing up into a trash can.
"Everyone was like 'Oh, Leo, are you OK?' and the only two people on the floor laughing were (director Martin) Scorsese and me."
