Josh Hutcherson: I make people bawl

Josh Hutcherson admits it must be "weird" for guys when he randomly turns up to play soccer.

The 22-year-old actor stars as Peeta Mellark in The Hunger Games franchise, which is based on a series of books. It has thrust him into the limelight in a completely new way and he isn't yet used to all the new fans.

"It’s weird when people cry. Tears falling down their cheeks and you’re like, 'I’m sorry I don’t want to make you cry. Shall I go now?' I don’t know what to do. It’s uncomfortable," he told British newspaper The Independent.

That doesn't mean he allows his fame to stop him living his life though. In fact, when he was shooting parts of the franchise, he used to go and join in sports games with locals, sometimes with his co-star Woody Harrelson in tow.

"I always think if I was in their position, how weird it would be. You know? Just in the park playing a normal soccer game in Atlanta, and all of a sudden, like, ‘Wait, is that f**king Peeta, coming to play? What the hell is he doing here?’” Josh giggled.

“That would be so weird. Sometimes me and Woody would go and play pick-up games – Woody loves to play soccer too – and it’s just a weird thing to be a part of it.”

At the moment Josh and his co-stars Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth are promoting the penultimate movie in the series, Mockingjay - Part 1. The last one will be out this time next year and while Josh has had a great time on set, he's also looking forward to moving on.

He doesn't feel any pressure as far as his career goes and is proud not to have fallen into the same traps as other child stars - even though he freely admits drugs are an issue in Hollywood.

"I’m aware of it, definitely. It’s something that is all around, but you can choose to be in it or not and it’s all about surrounding yourself with the right kind of people. For me I want to live and experience life and have a good time and everything but all in moderation," he said.
