Actor Joshua Jackson accepts his TV show The Affair can be a “tough” show for couples to watch together.

Actor Joshua Jackson believes dating someone who isn’t an actress could be awkward when he has to film love scenes.

The 37-year-old star has been in a relationship with Diane Kruger since 2006 and insists they both understand shooting love sequences is just work and nothing more. When Joshua was asked how Diane felt about his passionate part in The Affair, he laughed off any fears she may be jealous because of the context of the TV show.

"The show might be steamy, but it's so tremendously dysfunctional that I don't think she feels threatened by anything that's happening on camera," Jackson told ET. "Thank God she's an actress as well so she understands.

"I think it would be very difficult to be with someone who wasn't in the business and trying to work with material like that.”

Although Diane may feel fine at the thought of Joshua filming sex scenes, that’s not to say she finds it easy to watch them. Joshua accepts that the programme, which explores the emotional and psychological effects of an affair, is bound to spark intense conversations between couples.

"It's a hard show to watch sometimes," he admitted. "It just brings up difficult topics between couples and people, so yeah it's a tough one."

The former Dawson’s Creek star has also shared his plans for the upcoming holiday season. While he will be celebrating Thanksgiving (26Nov15) with Diane in America, the pair will then travel to Germany for Christmas (25Dec15). Joshua loves embracing the German traditions, but is slightly concerned about gaining too much weight if he overindulges.

"Diane's family goes whole hog," he told People. "Germans are all about Christmas so they have these Christmas festival month things. I'm going to come back at 300 pounds. It's amazing. You just go and eat for 20 days. It's great and the food is excellent!"
