Julia Roberts' family revelations

Julia Roberts admits that family mealtimes can be stressful.

The actress stars in August: Osage County, which sees a dysfunctional family brought back together through a crisis.

She and her husband Daniel Moder have twins Hazel and Phinnaeus and son Henry together and Julia admits she can relate to some elements of the film.

"There’s nothing like making a movie like this to make you go home and appreciate what you have. I love to cook and I love to have all my family around the dinner table," she told British newspaper The Mirror.

"It’s definitely a place for revelations and in some cases they can turn ugly, but for me it’s a very happy space and a nourishing, beautiful place for a family to spend time together."

The 46-year-old star remains loved for her iconic roles in Pretty Woman and Notting Hill.

She allows herself plenty of family time between movies, which she views as very important.

"My life at home gives me absolute joy. Having so much time there with the family has just been incredible," she gushed.

"My life has changed and I work less, but I was never really one to work too much.

"I never really did years of movie after movie after movie. When you’ve got three children in the house you’re performing all day long, anyway. I act around the clock."

Now that she has a happy family to care for, Julia is much pickier about her roles.

She would have to think twice before taking on a new project.

"It’s increasingly rare for me to find things that challenge me as an actor because the challenge of my personal life, and how fulfilling I find it, is tough to compete with. So a piece like [August: Osage County] was a dream come true," she explained.

"The movie is based on a play, which I had seen, and it’s a wonderful story about this dysfunctional family getting together after a funeral.

"It’s like a powder keg waiting to go off. The mother [Meryl Streep] is spoiling for a fight and she and her daughter [Julia] push each other to the limit."
