Julia Roberts wants fistfight
Julia Roberts says social media is like “cotton candy”.
The 45-year-old Hollywood star considered the impact of social media on today’s society in a new interview. She would much rather individuals address their issues in person, rather than hide behind the anonymity of the internet. In her upcoming film August: Osage County, Julia had a memorable fight scene with co-star Meryl Streep and she loved the physicality of it.
"It’s kind of like cotton candy: It looks so appealing and you just can’t resist getting in there, and then you just end up with sticky fingers and it lasted an instant,” she told the latest edition of US magazine Marie Claire while discussing her refusal to use social media. "There's an anonymity that makes people feel safe to participate in hatefulness. I like a good old-fashioned fistfight if people are p**sed off at each other. I just feel like if you're really mad and want to have a fight, then put your dukes up."
Julia went on to recall her hands-on scene with acting legend Meryl. The fight, which takes place during a family dinner, took three days to shoot and both stars ended up covered in bruises.
"I tell you, Meryl's strong! I'm just thankful I didn't hurt her,” Julia laughed. “I had many imaginary conversations with Meryl about working together. When a person goes from being on a pedestal in your mind, to even cooler, better, and more fabulous up close, you get to understand them a little more intimately.”
Julia also spoke about her home life. The star raises three children with her cameraman husband Danny Moder and loves looking after her brood.
“It’s my privilege and honour to cook three meals a day for my family," she gushed. "And it’s a luxury on a level that I didn’t even realise, because it can be relentless for me on some days. You have pride in how you take care of your family."
