June Brown has confirmed her hearing is starting to fail.

The 88-year-old actress is famed for playing Dot Branning/Cotton on soap EastEnders and recently admitted her sight is beginning to fail. She's now confirmed her ears have become a problem too, although she is hopeful it won't be forever.

"Unfortunately it happened when I was going up to Glasgow for a charity," she told British newspaper The Sun.

“My ears impacted and they haven’t come back since. I hope that they might do at some moment.

"I thought it was a bit unkind given I was flying up for charity!"

It's not known whether June's hearing issue is a temporary one or not. Earlier this month she attended a question and answer session her former co-star Barbara Windsor was holding, where she was open about her health issues.

"Are you talking to me Babs?" she said as her friend welcomed her to the stage. "Tell me, because I’m deaf you see and it’s very hard for me to hear so I don’t know what you’re talking about. What did you say to me?”

She then added to the audience: "Sorry, I would like you all to shout because I can’t hear, you see. I am ever so sorry. I am straining here."

Despite her issues, it's business as usual for the Albert Square stalwart. She apparently won't allow her hearing problem to impact her work schedule, and she wouldn't dream of asking for time off.

"June likes everything to be upbeat and she wants everyone to know that she has absolutely no intention of pulling back or slowing down," an insider said.

“It’s important for her that people know this isn’t an issue at work. The only reason she is off screen at the moment is because Dot is in prison.

“She’ll be back at work imminently and is chomping at the bit to return.”

June spoke about losing her sight in May, explaining that she sees things in the field of vision from her left eye. Again it won't make her quit EastEnders though, not least because she still needs to earn a wage. The star has been in the show since 1985 but hasn't saved much money, revealing she prays that her eyes will return to normal.
