Jungle celebrities face offal time

Freddie Starr is among the contestants on this year's I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here

I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! kicks off a new series in typically grotesque fashion with one team dunked in offal.

The trial which awaited the stars as they arrived at camp saw the two teams of five suspended above two tanks which contained fish guts, offal and slime.

The task required the celebrities to reach into locked boxes in front of them - using only their mouths - and obtain stars and keys that could be used to unlock other boxes. The team who unlocked all the boxes first would escape a dunking and win dinner for the camp.

Freddie Starr demonstrated a surprising reluctance to fill his mouth with critters scooping a star from a box of mealworms too late to save his team from a dunking.

As a result, yellow team clinched an easy victory, after The Only Way Is Essex star Mark Wright braved a box full of crickets and scorpions.

Not to let the yellow team escape the gunge, former McFly bassist Dougie Poynter retrieved a handful of fish guts from the tank, hurling them at actor Antony Cotton and former Olympic athlete Fatima Whitbread.

On their second night in the camp, the celebrities had to compete for food in a game called Food Poker. The teams were presented with numbered boxes containing jungle delicacies, and their rivals had to guess if a food was nice or nasty.

Emmerdale's Lorraine Chase had to stomach garlic, jelly and wasabi, while racing presenter Willie Carson had to eat cat food, cheese and strawberry jam.

Nine of the celebrities entered the jungle in two groups, one by skydiving and the other by canoe. Starr met the rest of the stars at the camp in time for the first task. On arrival the celebrities were split into two camps and will remain separated for the foreseeable future to compete for food and luxuries.

Cotton is the early favourite to win the show with the bookies, with odds of 11/4 offered by William Hill.
