Justin Theroux wanted 'different' diamond for Aniston

Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston's fiancé was reportedly determined to get her an engagement ring which was totally different to her previous band.

The actress accepted Justin Theroux's marriage proposal in August and gushed about how romantic it was during a TV interview this week.

Her ring has caused a lot of debate by celebrity fans as it consists of one large diamond, said to be 18 carats. Some suggest the stone is too big, but it's been claimed Justin decided on the style so it was completely different to the intricate design Brad Pitt gave Jennifer when they got engaged in 1999.

"Justin made sure he got one big stone instead of lots of smaller ones so it would be nothing like Jen's old ring from Brad," an insider told Heat magazine. "He got advice from Jen's best friend Courteney Cox who encouraged him to get the more natural-looking 'rough cut' and went for gold because it better reflects the type of jewellery she likes now."

Brad and Angelina Jolie also got engaged this year, said to be another factor Justin considered. He apparently wanted to ensure Jennifer's new band was totally different to the brunette actress'.

"Angie's is all hard edges; Jen's is softened and natural," the insider explained. "Justin's really good at playing attention to that stuff and decided that this ring totally suited his wife-to-be. Jen is totally happy and is now getting on with planning her wedding."
