Kanye: I’m human
Kanye West asks for “respect” from paparazzi and discloses details on his recent airport altercation with a photographer.
The 36-year-old rapper has a notoriously tense relationship with the media and is facing criminal charges following his scuffle with a photographer in July.
On Friday, TMZ photographers followed Kanye to a petrol station in Calabasas, California, where he cheerfully opened up about his experience of being hounded by the press.
“It’s not about me being a superstar it’s about me being a human being. And I really appreciate that,” he spoke on video.
“One of these guys here was saying some bulls**t earlier like, ‘We’re supposed to respect doctors.’ Naw, you gotta respect human beings, it’s all good.”
Kanye also revealed details about his altercation with paparazzo Daniel Ramos at Los Angeles International Airport on July 19.
The rapper was charged with criminal battery and attempted grand theft for the incident but claims Ramos antagonised him at an emotionally vulnerable moment.
“You know, I mean I’m dealing with the guy [Ramos] setting me up at the airport the other day you know he’s f***ing laughing and s**t and what I didn’t get to say on Jimmy Kimmel [is] that’s the day I found out that my grandfather was not gonna make it and he passed away weeks later,” Kanye explained.
The musician welcomed daughter North with his partner Kim Kardashian in June.
Kanye wants to protect his child at all costs and asks paparazzi to help him with the task.
“You know, it’s just like my family is growing up, if you think about this, if you had a daughter and you guys say like crazy s**t to me all the time right, you say it to my family, you ask about me. I couldn’t imagine my daughter being like four years old and you guys screaming at her,” he said.
“You guys help me at points, you help with the family, you help Kim’s power and everything, so I’m not trying to f**king be at you guys in any type of negative way. I don’t want you guys to be negative to me and I would prefer if we had some kind of decent relationship.”
Kanye’s arraignment in the Ramos case is scheduled for November 7.
He is also facing a civil suit filed by the snapper.
