Kate Hudson: Death changed me

Kate Hudson says her grandmother’s death transformed her perspective on how to relate with others.

The 35-year-old actress is gearing up for Mother’s Day, which is celebrated in the US on Sunday.

And Kate says the holiday ignites serious reflection for her, as it brings up particularly poignant memories.

“My last Mother's day with Grandma [was powerful]. I think we all knew that she was not doing well. I remember it very vividly because it was so important,” she told E! News.

“I was 14. It hit me that people go and you don't want to take those things for granted because it's those moments you realise you aren't going to have someone around for much longer. That you wish you could have gone back and been more present at other times.”

Kate will celebrate this year’s holiday with her entire family, including mother Goldie Hawn and her partner of over three decades, Kurt Russell.

She is looking forward to seeing sons Ryder, 10, and Bingham, two, play around with their little cousins.

"We're just going to hang at my house. [My fiancé] Matt [Bellamy], my mom [Goldie], my brother. The whole family - we all get together," Kate shared. "We always do it like that."

The star recently revealed she often looks to her own mom and dad for inspiration.

Kate, who divorced Chris Robinson in 2007 after seven years of marriage, believes lifelong happiness with one partner is definitely possible.

"If I look at my parents [Goldie and Kurt], who've been together thirty-something years, I'd say no matter what they've been through, they share similar values and really like each other," she told Self magazine.
