Goldie Hawn told Kate Hudson to imagine her "va-jay-jay" was a "flower blossoming" during childbirth.
Kate endured an 18-hour labour before giving birth to her son Bingham in July 2011.
The 33-year-old says her famous mother's advice during the process was slightly eccentric.
"She puts on these reading glasses that have headlights on them. I have my doctor and my mom kind of looking over with these headlights," she explains on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
"And she brings a magnolia flower. And she sort of starts to do these visualisations with me. And she's going, 'Imagine your va-jay-jay as a large magnolia flower blossoming.'"
Goldie wasn't the only one to get involved in the birth - Kate's rocker fiancé Matt Bellamy was just as determined to be there every step of the way.
However, the 33-year-old actress wasn't quite so keen to have the Muse frontman witness everything.
"I was like, 'Stay back.' I put up tarps," she laughed to Ellen. "I was like, 'Don't go anywhere near the area.' And I see him start to creep. I'm like, 'No, no, get back!' Meanwhile, my mom's going to the doctor, 'That's not normal. It that normal?' It really was a Woody Allen film."
