Kate Winslet never plans to tell her children she’s a famous actress.

The 39-year-old actress is mother to Mia, 14, Joe, 11, and 19-month-old Bear, but she doesn’t really talk about work with her children. She’s never felt the need to sit them down and discuss it, and the idea alone fills her with dread.

“Never. He’ll figure it out,” she told TV show Lorraine, when asked when she’ll tell Bear about her job. “First of all, I hate the term ‘movie star’. I have such a profound allergic reaction to that. Mia and Joe, they’ve figured it out. They really do respect and enjoy being on film sets and they’re fascinated by it. They don’t run around like kids who know the ropes or anything like that, they’re really not sort of on-set type of kids in that way. That’s enjoyable for me, because I do feel as though perhaps I’m passing a little of the work ethic along to them.”

This relaxed attitude bleeds into all areas of the Oscar-winning star’s life. She will turn 40 in October and while that fills many women with an impending sense of doom, she is embracing it. Kate has already planned what she’ll do on the day and believes her career success is one of the reasons she’s so able to take ageing in her stride.

“I’m very excited about it. The last couple of years I’ve done a lot; had the baby, creatively it’s been a really interesting, diverse and fulfilling time for me and so I kind of feel that when I get to that 40th birthday, I will have earned it,” she said. “And I sort of have this strange notion that I’m going to spend the day in a bikini, I don’t know why I sort of decided that, but I want to feel great and vital and all the things I do actually feel. So I’m looking forward to it.”
