Katherine Jackson: Paris is getting help
Katherine Jackson says her granddaughter, Paris Jackson, is getting medical attention following reports of the 15-year-old’s apparent suicide attempt.
Michael Jackson’s 15-year-old daughter was taken to a Los Angeles-area hospital Wednesday morning around 2 a.m. following a call to 911 reporting a possible overdose, according to TMZ.
The website claimed emergency medics also saw cuts on her wrists.
Michael’s mother, Katherine Jackson, has been co-guardian of the teen and her two brothers since the pop star’s 2009 death.
She told Radar Online Wednesday afternoon Paris is “fine and getting appropriate medical attention”.
“Being a sensitive 15-year-old is difficult no matter who you are,” reads a statement from the matriarch. “It is especially difficult when you lose the person closest to you.”
“Paris is physically fine and is getting appropriate medical attention. Please respect her privacy and the family’s privacy.”
A source told the website Paris has been “very upset” she has been called to testify in her family’s wrongful death suit against concert promoters AEG Live.
The Jackson family is suing the firm for what they claim is negligence in the hiring of Michael’s former physician, Conrad Murray, to look after his health as he prepared for his final series of concerts.
A coroner ruled Michael died from acute propofol intoxication stemming from his use of the powerful sedative administered by Murray to treat the singer’s insomnia as he prepared for the shows.
He was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in Michael’s death and has been serving a four-year sentence in Los Angeles County Jail since November 2011.
