Katie Holmes 'forced to evacuate New York home'
Katie Holmes has been forced to evacuate her New York City home, it has been claimed.
The 33-year-old actress and her six-year-old daughter, Suri Cruise, reportedly remained in Manhattan despite evacuation warnings before Hurricane Sandy made landfall on Monday night.
The superstorm knocked out power for hundreds of thousands along America's East Coast, killing nearly 100 people.
According to the Huffington Post, the actress has been forced to find temporary housing after her apartment in Manhattan's Chelsea neighbourhood remained without power or water on Friday.
"Suri and Katie stood it out as long as they could," a resident of Katie's building told the website. "The power abruptly went out around 8:30pm Monday evening, leaving everyone sitting around torchlight or candle light."
Katie and Suri have reportedly checked into a posh hotel on New York City's Upper East Side.
Katie was seen heading to work on her Broadway show Dead Accounts on Thursday.
The show was scheduled on Saturday to begin previews, which have been pushed back by a week.
Suri's father, Tom Cruise, is believed to be filming in the UK.
A spokesperson for the actress had not responded to requests for comment at press time.
